Bowflex Max Vs Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer – Which is Best For You?

Trying to compare the Bowflex Max vs Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer?
These are both hybrid elliptical-stair climbers that can help you burn more calories than a traditional elliptical.
They’re both designed for high intensity interval training workouts – which have been proven to help your body burn more calories, even post workout.
But what about when you pit them against each other?
How do they compare?
And which is best for you?
This post will give you a rundown on the main differences between them to help you choose the best option for you.
Bowflex Max Vs Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer: Price
As of right now, there really isn’t a clear winner as they both tend to start around $1000 and go up from there.
The Bowflex Max Trainer has 3 models, starting around $999 with Free Shipping here. The models range in terms of console, number of workout programs, resistance levels and warranty.
But they all have the same popular Max Trainer design that was created to burn more calories than a standard elliptical trainer.

The Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer comes in two models – the regular and the HIIT Trainer PRO model. You can compare both models which start around $999 with Free Shipping here.
Again the main differences are the consoles and things like resistance levels and warranty. But the higher-calorie-burning design is the same for both machines.
Bowflex Max Vs Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer: Console
The consoles on the Bowflex Max Trainer (M7 model console seen below) are easy to read with all of your workout stats displayed.
However the consoles on the Proform HIIT Trainers do give you a bit more in terms of entertainment options. They’re also larger and easier to read. For example the HIIT Trainer Pro console (seen below) gives you full-color, touch-screen console.

This makes the iFit world scenery workouts really come alive when you’re working out (more on iFit below).
Also, there are tablet holders above the consoles on both HIIT trainer models. So you can surf the web or watch your favorites movies or shows as you workout with your tablet.
Both HIIT trainer consoles also give you iPod docks with built-in speakers to play your favorite tunes and fans to keep you cool – something you don’t get on the Max Trainer consoles.

Bowflex Max Vs Proform HIIT Trainer: Calories Burned
The Max Trainer has a bit of an advantage here – just because Bowflex has actually done the tests to prove that you can burn 2.5 times more calories on the Max than on a stair climber, elliptical or treadmill.
Max trial users actually burned up to 600 calories in 30 minutes, which is incredible.
And Bowflex has the smarts to advertise this:
This doesn’t mean you can’t burn just as many calories on the Proform HIIT Trainer. Considering that the two trainers are so similar in motion, you probably can.
But so far Proform is not really advertising the “More Calories Burned” advantage yet. This is probably because it’s a new machine and they haven’t had the time to do these calorie tests that Bowflex has done.

To be fair of course, one of the main advantages to the Max is that it comes with the high intensity 14 minute workout that is designed especially for high calorie burn, even post workout.
The HIIT Trainer doesn’t have this (although it does have built-in workouts).
So if you want the assurance that you’ll burn more calories, faster, then the Bowflex Max has the clear advantage here.
Bowflex Max Vs Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer: Online Tracking/iFit
The Bowflex M5 and M7 models have Bluetooth tracking where you can track your workouts on the Free Bowflex app or sync your workouts to other popular fitness apps. (The M3 model does not have Bluetooth Tracking).
Both HIIT trainer models come with iFit Coach compatibility – that adds both tracking and entertainment options.
iFit Coach takes your machine online where you can download unlimited new workouts to your trainer (including several HIIT workouts specially designed for the HIIT trainer). You can also track and graph your workouts over time.
And you can run famous trails all over the world while watching real landmarks pass you by in the console or tablet screen – very virtual reality.
So you do get a lot of options with the HIIT trainer and iFit that you don’t get with the Max Trainer. With the standard HIIT trainer model iFit Coach comes as an add-on feature (at an extra cost).
However if you get the Proform HIIT Trainer PRO model through the Manufacturer (as of this writing), you can get a 1-year Membership to iFit Coach included. So you can try it out for a full year and see if you like it.
Bottom Line?
Both the Bowflex Max Trainer and the Proform Cardio HIIT Trainer use a stair-climbing-elliptical motion to engage more lower body muscles and burn more calories than a standard elliptical.
They’re also more compact than traditional crosstrainers. However there are some subtle differences between them.
The Proform HIIT Trainer tends to give you more in terms of console options and entertainment. You also get the option to connect with iFit Coach to run trails all over the world and download unlimited new workouts.
However the Max Trainer has the specialized HIIT workouts built in to the machine and it also has a proven track record when it comes to burning lots of calories.
So at the end of the day, it really comes down to what you’re looking for.
