You’re not alone – these are two ultra-affordable hybrid elliptical-bikes. They both give you 2-machines-for-the-price-of-one and look very similar on paper.
They both also come iFit compatible with similar 15 inch strides, adjustable seats and backlit, easy-to-read consoles.
This may leave you wondering – which is best for you?
There are some important differences between them you should know to help you make a more informed decision. Let’s dive in and take a look.
Proform Hybrid Trainer vs XT – Price:
While these trainers started out around a similar price, surprisingly (as of this writing at least) the Hybrid Trainer XT is coming in slightly cheaper than the Hybrid Trainer – around $100 less here with Free Shipping.
You can get the Hybrid Trainer with Free Shipping here.
What’s so surprising is that the XT model actually has a few more upgrades than the Hybrid Trainer – so the fact that it’s (currently) more affordable is a huge bonus. Of course this may change in the future.
Proform Hybrid Trainer vs XT – Footpedals
The regular Hybrid Trainer model comes with standard footpedals (see pic above).
While you can adjust them based on whether you are biking or riding the elliptical, they were really made for an elliptical ride. They feel a bit weird for a bike.
However the XT model comes with upgraded footpedals that have a bit more traction to them – and an additional footpiece you can use when pedalling the bike.
This is a lot more ergonomically friendly and feels a bit more natural when cycling.
Proform Hybrid Trainer vs XT – Seat:
The seat on the Hybrid trainer is adjustable with a mesh back (for better cooling air flow). Here’s the Hybrid Trainer seat:
However the Proform Hybrid Trainer XT model steps it up to a more densely padded seat bottom and added lumbar support. Here’s the Hybrid Trainer XT Seat:
It’s also adjustable both vertically and horizontally – again an improvement over the Hybrid Trainer model. If you want a more comfortable ride, then the XT model is the better option.
Proform Hybrid Trainer vs XT – Console:
Both consoles are backlit and easy-to-read. They both also come with a tablet holder.
So you can attach your tablet and surf the net, watch movies or even connect with iFit Coach as you workout.
However the Proform Hybrid XT console is a bit brighter and slightly larger than the Hybrid Trainer console. Not a huge difference – but something you’ll still probably want to know.
Proform Hybrid Trainer vs XT – Larger Tablet Holder
One of the questions people have asked me is whether the Hybrid Trainer tablet holder will hold their larger tablet. It’s a fair question – tablets are getting larger and larger these days.
You want to make sure that you can in fact, attach your larger tablet above the console of your trainer.
Proform improved on the older tablet holder (found on the Hybrid Trainer) and added a larger integrated tablet holder to the Hybrid Trainer XT model.
You can also see this when comparing the consoles in the pics above. So if you have a larger tablet and want more support for it, you may want to go with the XT model with the larger tablet holder.
So which is better in the Proform Hybrid Trainer vs XT debate?
While the Proform Hybrid Trainer is the original elliptical-bike that started it all and has been around for a few years now, the Hybrid Trainer XT just gives you more value for the money.
This included upgraded footpedals, a larger tablet holder, better seat and streamlined console.
Why the price difference?
My guess is that Proform will eventually phase out the original Hybrid Trainer model and replace it with the XT model (I don’t work for Proform though so that’s just a guess).
Right now though, as it stands, the Proform Hybrid Trainer XT is clearly the better value.
